The Mission
The Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s Government Affairs Council (GAC) provides a basis for the Chamber to act on local, state, and federal issues impacting its business community so a favorable and profitable business climate is secured.
The Core Strategies
The GAC monitors, analyzes, and develops policy recommendations on local, state, and federal legislations, and serves in a liaison capacity with elected officials. With contributions from each of the Council’s members in respect to their individual industry, the GAC produces the Chamber’s Public Policy Platform each year.

The Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2026 Annual Strategic Initiatives and Policy Platform is the governing document for The Chamber's City, County, State, and Federal advocacy programs. Beginning with three core areas (the Strategic Initiatives), the Policy Platform empowers The Chamber to act swiftly and flexibly to emerging policy to ensure California is as business friendly as possible.

Long Beach Area Chamber of Commerce Endorses Prop 45
- Accelerates the essential infrastructure California needs. Prop 45 streamlines approvals and reduces costs for housing, clean energy, water, healthcare, schools, roads and wildfire prevention—helping lower the cost of living and improve our quality of life.
- Lowers housing costs. Permitting delays add more than $75,000 to the cost of a new home in California—driving up rents and mortgages and putting homeownership further out of reach. Prop 45 helps lower housing costs by getting homes built faster and more affordably.
- Lowers electricity costs. Endless delays in building clean energy and electric grid infrastructure drive up electricity bills for working families. Prop 45 will reduce electricity costs by accelerating the projects needed to deliver reliable, affordable energy.
- Protects taxpayers. Years of bureaucratic delays add billions in cost overruns for roads, schools, hospitals, water systems, and wildfire prevention projects—forcing taxpayers to pay more for less. Prop 45 cuts costly delays, reduces waste, and helps keep public projects on time and on budget.
- Creates good-paying jobs and strengthens our economy. By building the essential infrastructure California needs, Prop 45 will create tens of thousands of good-paying jobs and generate billions of dollars in new economic activity.
- Protects California’s strongest-in-the-world environmental laws. Prop 45 streamlines the approval process while keeping California's strong environmental laws fully in place. It speeds up the projects we need without weakening protections for our air, water, wildlife, or public health.
- Protects local control and community input. Prop 45 fully preserves local control—cities and counties retain the authority to approve or deny projects in their communities, and Californians continue to have a meaningful voice throughout the project approval process.
