Objective:
To create a positive business environment for new businesses
and assist in retention of business.
COUNCILS/COMMITTEES/EVENTS
City National Bank Entrepreneur of the Year – May 1, 2008: (Chair: James
Eaton, Airdrome Holdings LLC)-
Honor the “Entrepreneur of the Year” at the luncheon and
the Holthouse Carlin & Van Tright Corporate Citizen of the
Year.

International
Business Association: (President:
Larry Keller, Kennedy Jenks Engineering)
- Plan
and implement strategies for international business
development and improve trade-related business through
conferences and seminars.
Plan and implement World Trade Week activities.

Women’s
Council:
(President: Gail
Schwandner, Long Beach City College) – Provide opportunities through networking and
community development on numerous levels. Conduct annual
fundraiser for scholarship awards.

Airport
Area Business Council: (Chair: TBA)
– Maximize and demonstrate the full economic potential of
the Long Beach Airport as a major employment generator through
commercial aviation and general airline development.
PUBLIC POLICY - "Representing The Interest of Business With Government"

Objective: To support or oppose business-related legislation at the local, county, state and federal levels through advocacy efforts.
COUNCILS/COMMITTEES/EVENTS
Government Affairs Council: (Chair:
Lori Lofstrom, Holmes & Lofstrom, LLP) - Monitor,
analyze and develop policy recommendations on local, state and
federal legislation and serve in a liaison capacity with
elected officials. With
contributions from the Council’s sub-committees (including
employment law, healthcare, and resources), the Government
Affairs Council (GAC) produces a Public Policy Jobs Platform
each year.
National and California Visionary Leaders Luncheon Series:
Provides members an opportunity to hear from top elected
officials from the state and national level (previous speakers
have included US Senator Diane Feinstein, Secretary of State
Bruce McPherson, and CA State Insurance Commissioner Steve
Poizner).
State of the County: On November 1, 2007, the Chamber
will host the Inaugural Annual State of the County Luncheon,
to be delivered by Supervisor Don Knabe at the Hyatt Regency
Long Beach.
Long Beach Pro Business Political Action Committee: (Chair: Dave Neary, Westland Construction) - An organization of business people who are concerned about good
government. Members
work at strengthening the private-enterprise system by
promoting pro-jobs issues, legislation, and candidates.
Each summer, the PAC sponsors a “Candidates
Academy” for those in the community who are interested in
running for elected office.

Golf Classic – September 27, 2007: - Organize the annual fundraising golf
tournament, auction and banquet at El Dorado Country Club.
Principal for a Day – November
2007: Coordinate the Long Beach Unified School District Principal for a
Day Program where over 300 business members spend a day in local
classrooms.
State of the City – January 15, 2008: The largest luncheon of the year in which Mayor
Bob Foster is the keynote speaker.
Sponsor Spotlight 2008 will be Charter Communications. The
Chamber will award five $5,000 in non-profit grants
Inaugural Gala – June
19, 2008: Plan the largest evening of the year, select award recipients for
Industry, Dewey Smith Memorial Community Service, Small Business
Achievement and Ambassador of the Year awards. Honor a member company with the “Destination
Tomorrow” and “Industry” Awards.

Micro Data Solutions) - In partnership with the City of Long
Beach, focus and communicate the latest in technology to our
members. Attract
technology business to the City of Long Beach and provide
scholarships to local students.
