Learn About County and State Green Building Requirements at Free Training Sessions

Residential and commercial building professionals can learn how to comply with green building standards enacted by Los Angeles County and the state by attending one in a series of free training sessions being sponsored by the County during the next three months.

The three-hour sessions will provide a comprehensive look at the state and county requirements and provide practical real-world examples of how to comply with the often complex regulations. Builders, developers, architects, engineers and landscape architects who work on projects in the unincorporated portions of Los Angeles County are particularly encouraged to attend.

The sessions will be held on the following dates and locations:

  • Wednesday, March 28, 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Environmental Service Center, 700 Exposition Park Dr., Los Angeles.
  • Thursday, March 29, 9 a.m.-noon at West Covina City Hall, 1444 West Garvey Avenue South.
  • Wednesday, April 18, 1:30-4:30 p.m., Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20870 Centre Pointe Parkway.
  • Thursday, April 19, 9 a.m.-noon, Pacific Room, first floor, 523 W. 6th Street, Los Angeles.
  • Tuesday, May 22, 1:30-4:30 p.m., 2701 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica.
  • Wednesday, May 23, 9 a.m.-noon, 2701 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica.

HVAC Systems: Designing for Energy Efficiency Certificate Program

Saturdays, April 14 through May 19

This program provides a comprehensive introduction to chilled water systems and related components for commercial buildings. It also covers energy conservation and maintenance procedures so you will understand how HVAC systems impact our environment.

Cogeneration Certificate Program

Monday through Friday, April 16-20

If you need answers to your cogeneration challenges (either planning a new project or evaluating an existing project) or you want to hone your problem-solving skills in waste heat recovery and use, this certificate is for you. You will combine field case studies with basic background information and environmental requirements, garner new knowledge, discuss common concerns, and find answers to individual challenges. You will be exposed to driver equipment selection, recoverable exhaust heat calculation and selection of heat recovery components. By the end of the class you will be able to design a cogeneration plant and estimate manufacturing cost of the waste heat recovery equipment.

Facility Electrical Systems Certificate Program

Friday, Saturday and Sunday, April 20-22

This program will provide you with the fundamental knowledge you need to design electrical systems for buildings and electrical infrastructure. It covers basic electrical systems, lighting, power, construction documents, and some special systems. After an overview of electrical systems, the course delves into the details of lighting design. Following lighting, you will learn electrical design requirements for basic buildings including exploring variations between building types. At the end of this program you will have a basic knowledge of facility electrical design requirements for the building industry.
